School-Wide
Positive Behavior Support
PBS Schools
Our school is now a PBS school! We will be using the application
of evidence-based strategies and systems to assist our school in
increasing academic performance and safety, while decreasing
problem behavior, and establishing a positive school culture.
Fundamentals of PBS
1. Establishing clear expectations for all students in all settings of the school
2. Identifying positively stated rules for each expectation tailored to every setting of the school
3. Teaching students these expectations and rules
4. Reinforcing students who behave according to the school's expectations/rules
5. Differentiating between minor (classroom-managed) and major (office-managed) behaviors
6. Developing specific consequences for students who choose not to conform to school expectations/rules
7. Ongoing evaluation of behavioral data and academic data
Our PBS mission statement is:
CARE
C - Courage
A – Attendance
R – Respect
E – Excellence
Helire Dollars
We have a new reward system in place for our students who are doing “the right thing.”
Helire Dollars are given to students “doing the right thing” by teachers and staff to acknowledge their behavior throughout the school campus. Students may collect their Helire Dollars for one semester and spend them at school on different things. They will also have the option to keep them or deposit them in our school bank. However, they will have to learn to spend their money wisely.
At this time these are the things that are available to buy:
$1.00 – Temporary I D
1.00 – Pencils
1.00 – Office Phone Calls
3.00 – Treats at Lunch
6.00 – T-Shirts
12.00 – Uniform Shirts
12.00 – Movie Day/Popcorn and Coke
12.00 – School Social/Refreshments
20.00 – Free Dress Day
Selected Norms in Each Classroom
New Classroom Referral Forms
We have a new classroom referral system that will clearly identify smaller classroom infractions for various behaviors to improve classroom behavior. This new form will help to document problems and hopefully correct them without administrative intervention.
We also have a new classroom referral form for good behavior to document when students are doing the right thing.
PBS Lesson Plans
PBS lesson plans on positive behaviors will be taught at our school by behavioral specialist and community members. We will have an amended schedule that we allow time for students to meet in small groups and learn about different positive behaviors once a month.
Any parent/guardian that would like to join us is welcome, just contact us and let us know. We will make sure that you are informed of dates and times.
